Subject: RE: Bikesdirect or LBS?I bought a Bikesdirect bike, and have been very satisfied thus far. Eventually, I'd like to upgrade, but after 1,000 miles on my Vent Noir, I have not a complaint.
The way I rationalized it was that if I was going the used route, inventory was limited and it was unlikely that I would get that "perfect" frame that you can pick out if shopping new. At that point, Bikesdirect offered a better value with new components better than those in the used market.
Now, I will say that the bike needed a considerable tune when I first got it. Both deraileurs needed major adjustments (although most of the kinks were worked out simply by tightening the cables ), and the brakes needed some as well.
Also, the bike did not fit perfectly at first, but a smaller stem fixed the problem. The frame geometry is not ideal for me, but the fit is good enough, and likely better than anything I could find on the used market. |
