Looking at purchasing this frame at Fetish Cycles

http://fetishcycles.com/road/freccia/index.html

It is listed as a tri bike, but that is not a tri bike geometry. I am having to piece a bike together over the next few weeks, and i like the look and price. 199 for frame and carbon fork. I figured i would build this with all ultegra or da components and some neuvation wheels. Then next year when i can afford a real tri geometry, full carbon beast, i will do so. Actually, probably not next year, but 2010. What does everyone think? There is also some tri geomotry bikes out there with aluminum frames and carbon fork (scattante tt on performance and leader) that could work, but they are approx 200+ more. Let me know.

Seat tube angle is more a matter of comfort and proper fit for an individual; just because "they" say a "proper" tri bike needs a 78* seat angle does not mean it will fit you. There are tri bikes out there with everything from 73* to 80*.

As for building up a bike: do you already have the components and wheels? If not, and you need to purchase them new, you'll very likely end up spending way more than you would if you just bought an entry level complete bike. Just the Ultegra component 10 sp group will set you back over $1000; a complete build with nice sadle, aerobars, DA shifters could easily cost you $1500 without the frame or whels factored in. There are nice complete tri bikes out there in the $1000-$1500 range, and a "real tri geometry, full carbon beast" for only a little more than that.

Sorry, I have no opinion on Fetish Cycles. BTW, your link shows that frameset as $500

The home page shows the sale. I just looked on a few other sites, and can see that folks are starting to clear out their bikes. 1500 would go a long way. I think it is the psychology of piece by piece that doesn't make it hurt as bad. I figured used parts on ebay, but as i do the math, it doesn't really seem to work. I guess i just need to be really, really, really patient. After my 30 mile ride on my mountain bike with fat knobbies and a stiff wind from all the tropical activity down here in south florida, i feel the need more than ever. lol

Do a search for threads on building up a bike - many BTers have built up bikes using very "low-end" framesets like Motobecane, Leader, etc and did very nice complete builds for $1000-$1500. Used parts (ebay) is a good way to go, but given much patience (waiting for sales and discount suppliers like probikekit.com ) you can get some big bang for your buck. Going this route, you can later upgrade to a better frame (carbon) and swap out the components from the old bike. This is something I did and don't regret it. Caveat that you need to be savvy with knowing your prices and again, be patient, otherwise you'll pay more in the long run

BUT, the general rule of thumb is that you get a much better "deal" and bang for your buck buying a complete bike, especially model closeouts and year-end clearances.
