I'm doing the Endless Summer tri as my second race, September 21st at Long Beach Island.  Anyone else going to be there?  I'm a bit bummed that they keep reducing the bike distance - only 8.4 miles now - but I love LBI, I've trained there quite a bit, and looking forward to this race.

I will be there as well. This will be my first Tri. I'm a bit nervous, but excited. Why did they reduce the miles on the bike? any ideas? Good Luck to you.

Not sure why they reduced the distance.  I think last year it was 12 miles but 2 loops, this year is one loop but originally was going to be 10 miles, but now only 8.4.  I'm guessing they couldn't get the permits they needed.

Don't be nervous.  If you're ok swimming in the ocean, the rest should be cake, flat and fast for both bike and run.  Good luck to you too.

Bib numbers and waves are now online.  10 AG waves altogether, 5 minutes apart.  I'm in wave 6 which means plenty of people to pass from earlier waves :-)

Also, now we know why they reduced the bike distance - they had to have the turn around before St. Francis, which is a busy church on the boulevard with services at the same time as the tri.

Good luck to everyone, I'm #271, say hi if you see me.  I'll be there Saturday too, my son is running the kid's run.

I'll be doing it too...

This was my first race ever last year, it's a fun race but the bike is a little short this year.

Don't worry too much about the ocean swim, I grew up down there my whole life, and this is the warmest time of year for the ocean...

See you all there!!

I'll be there as well. Definitely a little nervous about the ocean swim though. No wetsuit for me either. Too late to try and deal with a wetsuit for the firt time. Hoping I won't be in the ocean that long. It is my first Tri. Wave #7. I have a lot to learn. Can anyone give advice for the swim? Is there a rope out to the buoy? Funnel to the rope? Stay outside?

DONE!  Race report coming soon.  Great race - except for the swim delays due to safety concerns (choppy ocean) and the buoys not staying in place!  Hope everyone did well.

It was a good race...the start was a little hairy with the crazy current and the 3-6ft sets, but to be honest it was kinda cool!

I hope that everyone had a great time! I was number 170 (and i did BT proud, as i placed 1st in my AG and 9th overall)!

O and by the way, did anyone catch the young kid who was like 12 or 13 (yea the heavier one in the all blue suit)...my hat goes off to that kid for getting through that swim and then finishing that race! That was amazing to see! A major applause was given to him as he came to the finish line!

I posted my race report!

I was in it today also. This was my seconf tri, and this time my sister and a good friend did it also.

What happened with the buoys after Wave 3 (I was in Wave 2)? My sister told me they moved the buoys in and also told people not necessarily to swim all the way around the buoy.

I worked very hard to stay left of the buoy, but before I knew it it was on my left and I had to swim directly opposite the current to get around the buoy. The swim should be my best part of a tri, but today it was by far my worst.

They moved the buoy in, then switched to a smaller one, and then did away with it altogether.  By the time my wave started (wave 6), there was no buoy and we were told to just swim parallel to the shore, which created mass confusion since nobody knew how far to go in - some people seem to stay in shallow water and just walk toward the swim exit.

Thanks for the info. I totally understand why they would change things up. It was downright dangerous. Still, I'm disappointed that it makes my swim time look so bad. Oh well.
