I had a great swim today. I have never felt this good, after a swim. 950 yds in 25 minutes. Not fast, i know, but what made it great is that i think i figured out what is have been doing wrong. I figured out that i have been too tense in the water. By relaxing, managing my breathing better and slowing down a bit, i was much less tired, was able to the last 750 yds non-stop, did 2x 100 warm ups. This is almost as fast as i have done in the pool, and i have not, as an adult, ever done 750 yds non stop, even in my sprint last spring.

If i am right, then Friday's swim should go well, too.

The only difference is, a different lane in the pool and different goggles. thinking about it, it must have been the goggles.

I have found that trying to relax makes all the difference.  Relax, reach out on each stroke and enjoy the water!!!  Speed will come as you work in some speed work in your routine but for me (and I was in your shoes only a year ago) it's about enjoying the time in the pool or lake and trying to glide as much as possible.

Congratulations on the swim!

I just figured out how to breathe the other day while swimming and today I had a GREAT swim (900 yds).  I still wonder if the lifeguard thinks I'm on the verge of drowning though.

I have often wondered that about myself.
