Subject: Bodybugg - Anyone using one?

I saw the opening show of this season's The Biggest Loser and was intrigued by the BodyBugg device that the contestants were wearing.

It seems like a fairly foolproof method of really knowing how many calories you burn in a day.

Is anybody using one?  If so, what is your opinion of the product?  I have about 35 pounds to lose and this seems like a great motivator and tool.

It seems like a good idea, but I would rather spend the $250 on other things... That's just me though.

I log my nutrition and have a calorie goal that is well under what I burn in a day. I'm not sure how much (percisley... but I would guess 500 - 600 calorie deficete per day), but I am loosing weight so I do not worry about it to much.

A big part of the body bug program seems to be the nutrition logging on their website. This I have found to be VERY helpfull because I can look at almost anything and give a reasonabley accurate estimate of calories now and I know where I want to be at the end of the day.  Nutrition logging will turn you into a walking talking meal calculator!

I know a couple of folks at the gym using them and they work OK..I just recently lost 40 lbs, and without a doubt the best thing I have done for my training, best money ever spent was on seeing a nutrionist. If you go to eatright.org you can find one in your area that meets your needs. It has been great, she goes through my training logs, writes my meal plans and best part I actually get to eat, and know what to eat and when to eat (it also helps that she is an ultra marathon runner)!!! As far as price goes, everybody is different but as a reference it was $90.00 for the first visit then $30.00 every visit afterwords (about once every two to three weeks) plus phone calls and emails. We'll that's just my two cents, but I have had issues with my weight my whole life, but have never felt better or lost weight quicker than after seeing a nutrionist...

Thanks to both of you for your feedback.  I find that nutrition logging always helps me, but I tend to get caught up in eating enough for training, versus having enough of a caloric deficit to make fat burn off.

I also did a search eatright.org, using "sports nutrition" and "weight loss" as search parameters.  It just so happens that the gym I belong to, which has a facility across the street from where I work, has a licensed dietitian who meets both of these search parameters.
Kizmet??

Very cool, sounds like you're going the personal rather than gadget route, Y'nerd.

I think the Biggest Loser folks would agree that it was the learning from people, not seeing things on a monitor, that motivated and taught them the most.

So yeah, kismet.   (great word, BTW -- http://www.wordwebonline.com/en/KISMET

Good for you!  Go for your goals!

Don't really get it. You can get your basal metabolism rate tested for about $50 or $60. I don't really see the need.
