Subject: shimano 9-spd cassette came loose on rideOn a ride yesterday I found my two smallest cogs "slipping". After further inspection I found the locking ring had came loose and the cogs actually were able to get off the splines that lock them in place in the hub. The bike is a Trek Equinox 7 and the hubs are Shimano 105 (if I remember correctly ) and only seen 6 months of use. From what I understand, this should never happen? That lock ring should be torqued and has knurling that help keep it set in place. Anyone had this happen? I know I can reset it (assuming the threads aren't fouled up now ) but I am afraid dirt may have gotten inside the hub, I don't know if I should attempt to clean and re-grease the hub, any advice? I am quite mechanically inclined, just never been into this area... |
