Hi fellow creepy clowns!  Looking forward to this challenge and need the kick in the pants support.

Intro - first year of tri's this year - 2 down, 1 to go.  Incredibly slow but doing it!  Competitive swimmer for 15 yrs growing up.  Just took two months off - completely - and now back to it.

Karen, 46, Work FT, 2 kids (16 ds and 6 dd

Not a runner and haven't liked it much over time.  This is the weakest link the area I can most improve in.  Going to a tri camp for a weekend in Jan and want to get as much out of it as possible so working on core, strength, running mostly but also trying to get in spin class and some pool time each week.

PS - I'm one of those people who don't like clowns, so I can just pretend one is chasing me and run faster!!

Hi--

I was placed in the creepy clowns group. That's hilarious, because I am terrified of clowns. A lot. Haahaha.

What exactly is the challenge?

Hi - welcome - great opportunity to meet other BT'ers and stay on track with your goals for the month.

Not sure how much you know so prob more detail then you want but set your goals, then Cat will set up a spreadsheet for each team.  We log in how much we are doing each week or day or whatever.  The spreadsheet will calculate our goal to actual and show a percentage.  The goal is to meet or exceed your individual goals (100% or more) while supporting your team .  The team that wins for the month gets "bragging" rights.  I've found it's a great way to stay motivated cause I don't want to let my team down and be come in under 100%.

I usually put a teensy above what I plan, although this month after a 2 month "rest" I'm right at where I want to be.

Hope that helps.

Hello Clowns!

Let's see.. intro... I'm a first year Triathlete, I only did one this year (Memphis in May) because I'm a broke full time student. I slacked off way too much after and am still getting back into the swing of things. I'm hoping this will motivate me a bit.

So, David, 25. FT student of Business. Looking to own my own Triathlon business eventually. If I had to rate my sports, I'd be best at swimming, then running, then horrific at cycling.

I don't have any problem with Clowns except for Stephen King's It... but who doesn't?

Good luck everyone!

So what are your goals? I don't understand what kind of goals I am supposed to be making.

Elishia.

PS: Like swim 1800m this month or something?

You're suppose to make a run goal either in time or distance. It doesn't have to be strictly running: it can be run, walk, run/walk, water jog, or elliptical. For example I'm shooting for 6 hours of elliptical and run/walk for the month of October.

Trijean - all of the goals are related to the run dynamic of tris - although we realize there is a broad cross-section of styles so the title is "Run(Walk/Elliptical/Water-run)."  If you don't have a solid basis for understanding how many miles you can run/walk - then I would suggest setting your goal by TIME - say, "I will do 300 minutes this month" - for some - 5 hours of running may be over 40 miles, or it could be that you are setting the goal to walk for 30 minutes 10 out of the 31 days this month.  Does all this make it any clearer?

I am Andy, 31, pastor in Malibu.  I just came off a running challenge in September and so increased my load by 20% for the month.    Love clowns...shrug - guess I can be the group guardian angel ---  bunch of scaredy cats :P

OKAY . . . well, this is a problem because the running portion of the triathlon is the only thing I do perfectly. Not that I am perfect, but I do stick to my plan. I have a bad knee, so I am can't do a ton a ton, but I do well at sticking with what I do do. HOWEVER, maybe I could work on pool jogging--this isn't bad for me knee and will ensure that I make it to the pool--which I have a problem with.

SO . . . any tips on pool jogging? Are you supposed to use that little belt thing? What if I say that I will do 240 minutes of pool jogging during October? That's an hour a week.

Elishia.

Hey Creepy Clowns...

A little background: This would have been my 3rd year doing triathlons but was derailed before the 1st race. Had surgery on my hand and then I was distracted with moving. I finally was able to start working out again only to develop Plantar Fasciitis so took some time off and I am finally feeling pretty good.

So with the season gone I am starting to work toward next season. This will be my 2nd month back running. I did 50 miles last month and put in for 50 this month. If the PF or some other nagging injury doesn’t rear its ugly head, I’ll be boosting my mileage mid-month.

Good Luck Everyone!

KellyM - your avatar is scaring me already.

Yikes...so clowns are my least favorite thing in the world, well, besides spiders.

This is going to be my first month back to running.  I had an injury that sidelined me earlier in the year.  I was cleared to run this summer, but didn't make it out all that much due to some wrong personal decisions.  So, since last year's Halloween running challenge is what made me love running, I'm hoping to get back on track again.

I suck at the smack talking, so I'll leave it up to my teammates to do that.

Ooh clown avatar, I'm going to have to get on that!

A little background:

Candace, 28.  I have no idea where I am and what I should be doing with running.  I walk a lot but when it comes to running I seem to fall apart after a few months, so I've started from scratch multiple times in the past few years often with a good space time in between.  I've been doing sprint tris for a couple of years, but I'm really slow.  I'm planning on a half next summer with another girl from my club, so I really want to work on building a better run base.  I bought new shoes, but I have to wait to fully break them in 'cause I have a knot in my calf.  I'll be on the elliptical for now.

I've already received some smack talk, so we're gonna need to BRING IT these next few weeks.

Hey Team,

I'm Chris and I have been doing Tri's for 3 yrs now. I am 47 yr old wife/Mom and Granmom. I have a run focused month this next month so I am in for 111 miles.  I am back in base training now as my first Race of every season is the infamous TTT series race. It is the end of May. This will be my 4th year doing it. I also do not really like clowns but I promise to work on that.   Looking forward to kicking everyone else's butt. So did anyone run today??? I did.  LOL

Does anyone know how to make one of those table/chart things for your log that has everyone on it linked? May be the Ever Great Cat can help us out.

Chris

Id LOVE to help you out but if Im honest its definatley NOT an area of expertise!!! There are instructions stickied at the top of the forum on how to do it... and if no one has a clue - let me know and I will rope in someone to help (my own team has the same issue!)

I can come up with a simple one for us in the next day or two for our logs.  I am in crisis mode with some work stuff, so if it wait for a day or two, I can put one together for us.

Hey Andy - waiting a day or two is probably a good idea as most challenges always get one or two late sign ups.

On one other thing - Ive had some queries about the team spreadsheets... these are coming - Im working some LONG days at the moment so I might not get a chance to get them up until the weekend.

But never fear... the spreadsheets are COMING!!!!!

Okay, I'll go ahead and introduce myself, too. Nice to see you guys (especially you carlacrews . . . seems we're on all the same forums). Anyway, first of all, I did just go running outside. It was only 1.5 miles--but I'm just starting, right? Well, anyway, it was on hills and I thought I was going to die, but I kept saying, "Elishia, don't stop. You're almost there." I say these things out loud, so I'm sure I look like a psycho! But it works! I also kept saying, "Elishia, you're not a quitter anymore." It realy does work. Woohoo! So I'm off to a good start. Yup. WELLLLL . . . wait, except that my goal is about swim jogging. Anyway. I am a 24/f . . . I teach HS . . . for now .

This is my first time training for tris--EVER--and the first time I've ever felt like an athlete. And it's only been a month. Trash talking? Like we even need to? Nobody has a chance at coming close to how well we're going to do. (Man, that was lame "trash talk," huh?)

Elishia.
