Subject: Got lost today on the bike

Went this morning on an organized bike tour, the Ride for Hope and Housing. Signed up for the 50K, 30 miles was going to be my long ride for the weekend, longest ride for me for the year. Was doing good, cruising mostly behind another guy on a tri bike. Had to stop at a rest stop for mother nature, when I started back the other riders I had been with were gone. Took off again, must have missed a turn. Kept riding, seeing no one near me. Finally saw a road I knew  and kept on. Never saw another rider, figured I was off course, but knew my way home, so I just rode it on in. Got back to the house, much to the surprise of my wife, because I didn't bring her car home. Had went close to 42 miles. Felt good in my legs, my lower back and butt was sore, but I was ok and had ridden my farthest yet. Started off with three bottles of gatorade, had drank 2 1/2. I was on my new Cervella, the comfort was much better than my old Trek 1000.

The good part was that I could have went another 13 miles, so I am glad I got in a farther than planned ride. I will never again take off on the bike without my cell phone. But, if I had had it, I might have called home for a pickup, this way I had to ride it in.

Had to drive back to the ride start location and pick up her car, told the event staff, that I had gotten lost. They were like, "you rode back to Salisbury?" I said yep.

LOL. I got lost on a ride that was scheduled for 45miles and wound up doing 60miles. But it was nice to know I could do 60. Maybe a Garmin would be a good Christmas present to ask for. LOL
