Fortunately, I prevented this accident and all my teeth are in tact.

But I got ready for a mountain bike ride and checked my criticals (tires, wheels, brakes) and noticed a SLIGHT wobble in the front wheel. I'm talking less than 1/8" to 1/4" max.

So I was careful and went to the bike shop to ask them to tighten the axel (my diagnosis), but in reality my axle was positioned too far to the right. At any moment, my fork would have slipped off its support and I would have superman'ed.

So there you go... slight wobble = DANGEROUS.

If the wheel aint straight, results won't be great. I just made that up.

Seriously, the worst injuries I've seen in cycling come from front wheels that break or come off, or if they tip another cyclist's wheel. If you have any doubts that the wheel is true, have a broken spoke, is misaligned, or can't remember if you completely drilled down the front skewer, stop and check. It's just not worth it.

Glad you're OK, BTW...
