Phoenix info needed.

I've been offered a position in Phoenix. It's between Glendale and Scottsdale. Where is a good place to live and get an apartment, condo, or townhouse in that area? Anyone have an opinion on Brophy pool and the masters swim? Family won't be moving out for about a year, so just need a nice place for myself. How are the YMCA's in Phoenix, or any other fitness center recommendations?
