Subject: Small Tears or Holes on Running Shoes

I have developed these small holes on the inside of the shoe where the back of the heel that is just below the achilles comes in contact with the shoe.  I've put about 100 miles on them so far.  When I take off my shoes, I untie them rather than just kicking them off my feet.  How is this caused and should I be concerned?

The shoes are Pearl Izumi Synchro Guide 2s.  I love the shoes, by the way.  I switched to them on a hunch from a model and brand of shoe that I had been loyal to for many years; the Pearls are primarily responsible for almost eliminating the PF pain that I have suffered with for about a year and a half.

Sounds like your heels are moving around in the shoes. I have narrow heels and always had this problem. Would put a piece of mole skin to cover the tear to get more miles. I tried many lacing patterns to no avail. Found Adidas makes a norrow heel running shoe, Supernova Cushion. No problems with heel tears any more. So, you might want to go back to the old LRS and get a fit.
