Subject: The 2-0-0-9 Challenge

Hey there!  I have a personal challenge and thought I would share to see if anyone else wanted to take this one.

My friend Lana (llamahope) does this for biking every year.  I am expanding it for myself to include swimming and running.

Starting 1/1/09 My 2-0-0-9 challenge goals are such:

  1. Swim 200.9 miles by 12/31/09
  2. Run 200(.9) days in 2009
  3. Ride 2009 miles by 12/31/09

So see - your goals can be in feet, miles, days, hours, minutes whatever - and you can make your goals about anything, not just swimming biking and running!  The only catch is that they must be in the 2-0-0-9 format.  20.09, 200.9, 2009, or whatever floats your boat - may a 2-0-0-9 goal and go for it!

See - now that is a great "out of the box" goal right there!

This is going to be pretty fun, eh?

Great idea. I started playing with 2009, trying to figure something I could realistically do. When I added 2009 minutes of yoga, plus 2009 minutes of strength training, plus 2009 on the bike, 2009 swimming and 2009 walking/running, I came up with 10,045. I divided that by 50 weeks and ta-da...200.9. So perfect, I knew I'd found my 2-0-0-9 challenge.

It comes out to a bit under three and a half hours a week for 50 weeks. That's definitely more than I've done this year. And if I manage more, I'll feel great!

Sounds cool, could do the run, I am at 1600 on the bike this year so I could push it to get the bike in. But not sure about the swim, I am at 44 miles so I would realy have to work to get the swim up there but it would be fun to try.

Thanks for the idea.

My 2009 goals:

Lose 20.09 pounds

bike 2009 kilometers

swim 200.9 kilometers - I don't think this is realistic for me... still working on a good swim goal

run 200.9 miles each quarter (Jan-Mar,Apr-Jun,Jul-Sep,Oct-Dec) - total miles = 803.6

I'm going to do this challenge.  I am going to swim 200.9 miles and bike 2009 miles.  Haven't a clue how I will do it, but, by golly, I am going to try.  I just couldn't get a reasonable (for me) running goal to work within the 2009 framework. I am trying for 1,500 running miles and to complete the 100 pushup challenge (which is only supposed to take six weeks, but I figure it will take me a lot longer).

Okay - I've given this a lot of thought and seriously crunched numbers to come up with something challenging, but still (hopefully) do-able.

1.) Lose at least 2.009 inches from my waist

2.) Lose at least 2.009 inches from my hips

3.) Bike at least 200.9 hours for the year

4.) Run at least 200.9 days of the year

5.) Swim at least 20.09 hours per quarter

I've got a challenging but non-tri year ahead, so my goal is 20.09 hours of exercise by 01.08.09. After that I'll probably change 2009 nappies before the year is out...!
