Pool closings becasue of new drain law

 I remember that story as it's probably the saddest one I've ever read. As a dad, I was very haunted by it. If you're inconvenienced by a new drain law related to that incident, it's worth it.

I read a story several years ago about this happening to a young boy, so this isn't something that should be a surprise to anyone who builds or operates swimming pools.

I can't imagine why the entire pool and recreation industries wouldn't have immediately corrected the danger -- Years ago.  This sort of thing really fires me up.

As someone in business management, I can't understand how any business can not have the safety of it's employees and customers as its top priority.  It's not just the right ethical thing to do, it makes good business sense in today's litigious society.

Edit - this answer was written by my wife who is the Parks and Rec Director in our hometown.

I operate an indoor pool and there is a federal mandate entitled the Virginia Grame Baker pool and spa safety act. The deadline for compliance was Dec. 19th. All pools and spas have to have new drain covers and some have to have anti entrapment devices installed. This is problematic due to the lack of available equipment for pool operators to purchase and install as well as health departments having the knowledge and man power to enforce the new regulation. My guess is that the pools you swim at have voluntarily closed until they are able to meet compliance. This maybe way more information than you need but I hope I gave you an answer.
