Well it looks like I'm sticking with the training. About 5 years ago I was an avid cyclist. Rode a Cannondale R100 (Sobe colors) and a Santa Cruz Blur. I developed a nagging shoulder/neck problem. After 45 minutes my trapezius would "cramp". I tried bike fit, accupuncture, injections, massage therapy and chiropractor. Never got better. Sold the bikes and got fat!
Well turns out I have arthritis in my neck. Maybe the years off the bike helped. Anyway I've been riding my wife's "vintage" Cannondale. We had this bike before my 14 year old daughter was born! Some items have been updated. I went with a more upright riding position. I rode it a few times on the road before the snow. Still rides good. Now I've been logging the miles on the trainer with it.
So today I thought I'd check out the LBS. Couple of bikes I'm considering are:

Roubaix is more relaxed geometry and what a bike store tried to sell me thinking I couldn't ride a real road race bike.

Try a lot of bikes, see which fits best, go to a good bike store that will fit the bike to both your body and your needs to keep your shoulders/neck comfortable.

Do you think riding in aero position would help or hurt your neck? I have carpal tunnel and can ride in aero easier as it is kinder to my hands. Aero allows your skeleton to support your upper body which might be more comfortable for you.

Bike shopping rocks!

I decided against the tri bike for now. I want to do some local group rides and think the tri bike would be limited. I do have a set of clip on aero bars I've tried and the comfort level is about the same. Thanks.

I loved my Roubaix! I just recently sold it just because. If in the future,  I ever get another road bike for group rides it will be a  Roubaix.

Good luck with the neck pain!
