Just taking a minute to introduce myself. 32 year male from central Mississippi. New to tri's but fairly strong swimmer (not many swimming fans around here) and runner. Plan on doing two maybe three sprints if I can work them around my son's busy schedule.

Welcome to BT, Mike.  Hopefully you can log a few workouts and races around the hectic schedule.  I look forward to seeing you progress toward the goals you set....

Thanks for the encouragement. I have found time for morning swims, three weekday workouts and one long weekend workout. So far so good I'm three weeks into a modified 13 week program.

Good luck Mike. I don't think you could find a nicer training community than BT. I've only been here a month myself and already, it's like old friends.

Another Mississippian!

I'm from Jackson. Which Tris are you planning on doing?

Welcome to the forum. This place has been fantastic for me so far.

If you claim that you aren't much of a cyclist i'm sure living and riding aroud all those hills in V'burg will likely change that.

Yea V'burg is a FUN place to ride the only place I really ride and run is the National Park and that thing is a monster. I believe it is uphill all the way. The Soak Up the Sun will be my first. I've never seen a tri before and figure this will take the place of my Sunday workout for that week. Also planning on the Tri4God but its the same day and time as the Ronald McDonald for kids and my son is wanting to do that. There's one in Meridian forget the name that I'm interested in. I haven't ruled out the Heatwave but it might be too much too soon for me.

Are you a member of the Jackson Tri club?

Welcome to the BT family. I spent a few days in V'Burg during Hurricae Ivan. I evacuated from Mobile.
The park would be a great place to train for running and biking.
You will get lots of information here. Good luck!!

Sounds like your Tri plans for the summer are the same as mine.
http://trifind.com/ms.html

Looks like the one in meridian is just a hair shorter than the Heatwave.. and we are in the same boat regarding that.. a bit too long for me too right now.

I'm not currently a member of the Tri club although I'll probably be joining sometime this summer.

You should probably check out some of the events in Louisiana. There are many many more there too.

Welcome again! It's good to have another Mississippian on "board"

Hey Will (and Mikem)! I'm from MS too. I've been lurking around on this board for a few weeks. Everybody is very supportive. I'm a member of the Jackson Tri Club. All that I've met are super nice and very supportive. BTW, we have a meeting this thursday at 6:30. Go to http://www.jacksontri.org/to get the details and location. The speakers lined up are from Rehab. Consultants and will speak on injury preventive measures, correcting running problems and general rehab info.

Also, the club has a mailing list you might want to join.

Good luck with your training and races!

Another Mississippian!

Clay, I will likely be joining the tri club before too long.. probably within the next month. I know that if i'm still not a member by the "soak up the sun" Tri in May I'll likely be talked in to joining at the event.. (probably won't be hard at that point)

Welcome on board!

Hi there! I just wanted to say welcome and to share the fact that I actually used to live in Vicksburg. Of course, I was very young then, but I still remember a lot about it--beautiful area in my opinion, and lots of history!! Anyway, good luck with your training. If possible, you might try running in the military park if it's still open. My dad used to run the 12-mile path every morning...

Also a newbie from MS. Joined BT last fall... but haven't gotten into training. Just as I decided to pick up this sport- I got engaged and had to plan a wedding... so now that I am married and things have settled down- I am planning on starting. I have been running more than anything- and just bought a new road bike... but I haven't even attempted the swim. It scares me the most!!!

Would love to catch up with the others from central Mississippi at some point!

Welcome aboard (congratulations on your marriage)! Have you signed up for any tris yet? The Soak Up the Sun tri is May 21. It's going to be a great tri for beginners. It's a 200 yard pool swim, 8 mile bike, and 2 mile run.

Good luck with you're training.

    Hrmm..
I've only been to two of the LBSs in this area. The Bike Rack and ProBike.

The folks at the bike rack are pretty nice as well but (and I haven't done any serious comparisons) I think that Gary out at Pro Bike has better prices on all of the STUFF that goes along with the bike. He is really more interested in helping cyclists out than moving lots of bikes and getting as much money as he can for a pair of shorts.

Did the folks in Meridian do a full fit for you on your bike?

Yes, they did a full fit. And I have only been on my bike a couple of times.... just messing around trying to get a feel for it.

I don't know any of the technical information.... gears, etc...

    Yeah..

    Me either

But.. there are many very knowledgeable cyclists on this board (but you probably know that if you have been lurking since the fall) that will help you out lots!

I've got a list of bike questions that i'm about to unload in a few days. I'm sure they will be some of the same questions you have too. Stay tuned!

Ok.. back to work for me.. before I become a FULL time triathlete
