Total Time = 1h 19m 54s
Overall Rank = 79/161
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 7/20
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bagel. Drank about .75 qts water. Light stretching, just a couple of laps in the pool to get loosened up.
Event warmup:

Stretch, only one or two laps in the pool.
Swim
  • 07m 23s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought the water was a bit cool. Last year it was really congested in the pool. Even at Athens earlier this year, the pool was pretty congested. This was great.
What would you do differently?:

I wanted to eat about 20 min before I went off and failed to do so. Would have preferred to have eaten.
Transition 1
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

slow, slow, slow. I need to quit worrying about drying off and just go.
What would you do differently?:

don't dry off. get a tri-top to wear in the pool.
Bike
  • 43m 18s
  • 13.25 miles
  • 18.36 mile/hr
Comments:

found myself losing focus on the course. should have drank more gatorade right away, especially since I didn't get to eat right before the swim. Could have done better - lolly-gagged too much.
What would you do differently?:

get focused and get busy. I could have done better, but it was still enjoyable.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

I thought it was pretty good. Didn't realize I was that slow.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. Try to be a little faster.
Run
  • 25m 59s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

course was better this year - last year there was more time where the people going out and back were crossing each other on the street - and mixing with the folks on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more on the bike. I popped a gel on the bike at about 11 miles. I shoould have done that at about 9.5 miles.
Post race
Warm down:

long, slow stretching and some accelerade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

all mental - I didn't push hard enough all the time - when I asked my body to go harder, I could without any problem - even for fairly long distances. I need to do more training where I push myself to go harder.

Event comments:

It's a great race, especially for beginners. Lots of volunteers and it's pretty small.

Course: course had some hills this year. spent about 3 min sitting waiting to cross major road (NASCAR Race in town caused lots of traffic). Hills were pretty much on second half of course. Overall, the course was better than last year, but had a lot of turns through the neighborhoods. Would have preferred a more open course.
