Subject: Any tips for the Loveland Lake to Lake race?

Hi There,
A couple of my friends and I are doing the Loveland race this weekend. It is our first Olympic race and needless to say we are quite nervous. We have been on the bike course so we know what to expect there.  Our goal is to just finish but of course we want to do our best. Any tips or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Kathleen

First, have fun!

A couple of little things:
1) The run from the swim to transition is LONG. Walk it the night before after packet pickup, so you have an idea.
2) Coming in from the run, you will see the finish area and think you are done. WRONG - you make a loop around another little lake. Don't start your final "sprint" too early.

Good luck!

It sounds like the water will be chilly, so don't panic in the first 5-10mins of the swim.  Concentrate on staying relaxed and you will not waste your energy fighting the temps, breathing, etc.   I second everything above and check out the other thread here: http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=163781

If you are really concerned I would read a bunch of race reports to get a feel for what others went through in the past:http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/directory/link-detail.asp?linkid=1896

Hope that helps, and good luck I am sure you will do great!

Thank you both!
I have done numerous sprints but this whole Olympic thing... yikes.  I know that I really have to NOT pay attention to all the people passing me and just  swim/bike/run my own race. And remind my self that if I have to walk a little during the run then it is ok. That is so hard for me to do though as I have a competative streak.
One other question if you both don't mind. In your experience did you find the bike course to be pretty crowded with people and or traffic?  I know that what wave I am in and time of morning I am on the roads will determine this but I thought I would ask.
Thanks again for your support. It is much appreciated.

There can be a bit of traffic (lots of trucks pulling boats) around the Horsetooth Reservoir, but most seem pretty courteous.

Lets see, watch out for the deer crossing near Horsetooth.   One year I had some cross about 50-100 feet ahead of me.
