I am extremely new to this sport, well doing all three competitively anyways.  I have a funny story about my bike ride the other day, but was wondering if it is not that out of the ordinary.  As I was finishing up my 12 mile ride the other day, a bird flew into my helmet!!  It was very weird to me.  It did not hurt me, and I did not see the bird fall to the ground, and did go back to look.  So, I thought maybe it was something else, but sure enough, when I got home there were bird feathers on my helmet!!  Anyone else have stories like this?!?!  Just wondering and also wanted to share! Smile

I thought this was going to be a picture of me!

THAT is a funny story, tho.  I have heard animal run-in on bike stories, but have not heard of a bird flying into a helmet!  I had one fly into my front wheel once.  It went around and got flung back right on top of a guardrail.  It was quite dazed for a long time, but did eventually get back up and fly away.

And welcome to the sport!

Does flying through a flock of gnats count?

That is too funny!  Good thing you had that helmet on, eh?  The birds must be fiesty this spring...I had a couple dive-bombing me as I was walking back to Trout Lake on Sunday.  (I realized after that I'd walked in between two big bird houses....but still, I wasn't going to take their food!

Never have hit a bird before, but did run over a squirrel's tail.  The worst is getting hit on the cheek or forehead by a bee or junebug.  That'll leave a mark!

Hehe!  I've been nipped by fish in OWS a number of times, or brushed. The nipping, you know what it is, you just want 'em to go away. Usually pinfish or small fish.

The brushing is a little more subtle...you pull, your hand or arm does something not quite normal, and you think to yourself "huh, that was weird". Then about 5 minutes later you suddlenly realize "that was a fish's wake" (or tail or whatever).

HAHA!  I am glad to hear others have had encounters with animals, insects, fish, etc.  It is funny, but new to me.  Hopefully nothing else happens any time soon.

I got almost tossed by a bird in the spokes. it however was not a lucky it got caught at the fork and locked the front  wheel. it was quite dead after that. I have also had a squirrle throw acorns at me as I was running on a trail once that was funny.
