Subject: Articular Cartilage Injury - Medial Femur
I was recently diagnosed with Articular Cartilage Injury of the Medial Femur. Basically my doc said I could not run ever unless I wanted arthritis by the time I turned 40. Anyone out there have this type of injury and is there anyway to recover enough to begin running again? Thanks

Depends on what kind of AC injury you have--the thickness, size, location, and any other compounding issues (meniscal tear, etc).

You can have a small chunk out of your AC, and if everything else is ship shape, you could most likely be just fine. You could also have them do an AC repair, if the defect is the right type (a microfracture, for example, is designed to replace lost AC).

I would get more information, and then a second opinion. Go visit a sports med orthopedist, and see what he has to say.
