Subject: RE: ulcerative colitis and crohnsI second flare ups on backpacking trips suck. Especially at altitude. Good lord, the lack of oxygen+anemia=suffer fest. But I digress. Somebody said something about looking for bathrooms, one thing you can do is take your bike for a ride along a long run route to scope things out. A long run will end up being a short bike. For a longer bike you're on your own (drive over route? ). Personally I find that while riding I rarely if ever find myself with a sudden need for a restroom. Running is a different story. Another strategy would be to run in a sort of daisy pattern so that you're never particularly far from home, but don't have to run over the same patch of ground over and over and over again. Being a college student makes it easier because all of the buildings on campus are pretty much open all the time. Also (and this is definitely TMI for anyone who doesn't have colitis or chron's, you have been warned ) part of doing longer runs, bikes, whatever, you do run the risk of not quite making it all the way to the bathroom. I know its embarrassing, and unpleasant, and it sucks, but its a risk one takes, and if it happens...No big deal. You can still go running the next day. It doesn't mean you can never go for a long workout again. Starting that next workout is half the battle. |
