Subject: Looking for feedback on Jordanelle Tri

Just completed my first TRI at the Summer Games in St. George.  Planning to do the Daybreak Tri in September but would like to get one more in before then.  I wanted to do the Echo but my wife has a prior commitment that day.  Now I'm looking at the Jordanelle Tri in August.  Has anyone done that race?  Any feedback?  I read you have to bike in a couple miles because you can't park near the race?  Wow.

Thanks

I did Jordanelle last August (2008)... It is a GREAT race, very well run.

It was also my first OWS, I felt very comfortable in the water there.

As for biking in... my hubby pulled to the side of the road near a driveway and dropped me off (as many were also doing).  Just don't stop right in front of the park.  I then biked maybe a 1/2 mile to body marking.  Even if you do bike there, don't worry you won't wear out your legs, as that it's all downhill.
They also have buses available at the front of the park for when your ready to leave.

I loved this race (prepare for the run - several hills).
I was looking forward to doing it again (until recent injuries)
I do plan on doing it again, and know several people that have it as a regular race on their schedules.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I am doing the sprint Jordanelle tri this year. It will be my first triathlon! I'm really excited, but I'm unsure about several things. The biggest thing I am concerned about is the transitions. How do I set up my bike before the race and what is the best thing to do as far as what I'll wear? I was thinking about wearing my speedo jammer for the swim, then for the bike just slipping on my bike shorts over the speedo and just running with them both on. Is this going to kill me? I mean, it's only the sprint distance, but will there be bad things happening cause of the wetness?
The other thing that I am worried about is being in the right place before the race starts. I don't want to feel rushed/frustrated all morning before the race.

Any advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark

Even though I have raced many times, I like to arrive at the race site about 90 minutes before the start.  That gives me time to set up transition, ask the volunteers what the flow is: where do we enter/exit the water, where do we exit/enter transition while on the bike, where do we exit for the run, where is the finish line, etc.  Then I do a walkthrough from swim exit to my bike, from my bike to transition exit, etc.

As for what to wear, I prefer DeSoto trishorts, which are a hybrid of jammers and biking shorts, i.e., a very thin pad.  If I had to make a choice between between jammers and jammers+bike shorts, I would not bother with the bike shorts.  If your concern is comfort on the bike, remember you will not be on the bike all that long.  If it is modesty that's bothering you, pull on some run shorts when you get off the bike.
