looking at getting one and wondered if anyone had used the built in GPS for mapping rides or runs??  does it give more than distance, such as elevation, speed, etc...  was thinking of a garmin 405 but if this will do the trick as well might save me some money.....  work pays for the phone.

I use Run Keeper Pro on my iPhone.

There are two versions: Free (Ad supported) and Pro (No Ads and includues audio cues for pace/distance).

I've been able to get 4-5 hours of tracking on the iphone.

I use Runkeeper (free version) on my iPhone 3G.  Works pretty well.  It tracks your current speed (mph and mile pace) and displays what your pace has been over the course of a workout.  When you're done it will automatically upload to your free account on their website where you can view your speed and elevation against a google maps route of where you've been.

I've never used another GPS device for working out so I don't know how this really compares to other gadgets, but it works great for me.
