Whats up people,

Just wanted to see if there is any Bend Triathletes out there. I'm new to town. Been doing a few masters swimming classes at Juniper, recently bought my first roadie, and am just loving training in this awesome place.

Any good clubs or group rides/runs/swims for beginners (but who want to be really good someday)?

Alright...hope everyones doing great!

Chase

Check out Fresh Air Sports, www.freshairsports.com.  They're not the best about updating their website but you can email Gina Miller on there for more info.  They are a great group and have weekly workouts.  If you are into spin classes, Cherie Touchette a former professional triathlete, has the best classes but they are hard to get into.  She teaches these classes with cyclists and triathletes in mind and also does some coaching.  I'm taking a break this year from triathlons but hope to be back in the game next year.  Kevin Sivertson used to work at Juniper as a swim coach/personal trainer, if you run into him, ask him about Fresh Air Sports.

Congrats on training for your first triathlon, you'll be hooked!  Occasionally Bob Bruce, the master's swim coach, will hold swim clinics and video tape your swimming and then go over it with everyone.  That helped me, once you actually see what you are doing wrong, it's easier to try to correct.  If you can afford a few private lessons that would be a great help also.  What tri are you going to be doing for your first?  Do you just have a mountain bike right now?  If you aren't able to get a road bike, buy slicks for your mtn bike, that will help somewhat.  I trained for my first tri five years ago on an old mtn style bike from Target.  I did get my road bike before my first tri and even though everyone told me that I'd go so much faster on a road bike, I was amazed.  Just remember that this is your first race, just have fun!

I was originally planning to do the portland triatholon, but I am thinking of doing xterra portland triatholon instead because for one my swimming is weak and despite the fact its a longer swim its in a lake so I dont have to worry about swimming into current. Second its a mountain bike and trail run so I won't have to worry about buying or renting a road bike at least not yet.

im in bend and i like to go to elk lake as often as possible to do some pretty fast 1000 - 2000 meter training swims. i also go to smith rock to do the burma road mountain bike loop. i like shorter and faster workouts like these because of the increased intensity and because i get bored on longer swims/rides. the burma loop mountain bike ride especially is quite intense and a ton of fun, and only about 8 miles around.

id like to go more often but its such a long way to those places and i get sick of driving it. if anyone would want to carpool and get some intense sessions in, call me at 541 788 5448. i set my own work schedule so i can pretty much go whenever.

I live in Bend and plan on participating in my first Tri Saturday in Redmond. Not being a runner or a swimmer, this has been quite a challenge. Anyone else participating in the Rat Race?Ted
