Although there is a legitimate point to the article...does anyone else think there is something very wrong with this article? (maybe it's just me) its like they've made the big issue about cyclists and pedestrian's when it its really cyclists and vehicles...there is lots of stuff I could highlight and be like what?! but I'll let you guys do that. (i got it off the USAT Zone eletter so maybe you a lot of you have already seen it)

Just realized this was in Australia and not the U.S. so maybe its differen't with cyclists and cars...

I can't see a problem with it.. I would of thought that sort of thing would of happened to you if you had killed a pedestrian anyway.. We have a long bike path along the river here choked with walkers. There are guys doing 30-40 km/h on their road bikes along it with no idea how much they could injure someone.

And it is a media article.. it is written to incence the reader no matter what side you are on Laughing

I find the pre-determined fines and prison time to be interesting.

While I think that biking at speeds above about 5 or 10 MPH should be done somewhere besides a walking trail or mixed pedestrian bike area, I do think that some fines should be set up to address non-cyclist hazardous activity.

My first two suggestions are as follows:

*$284 or seven day's prison if a cyclist or cyclist equipment makes contact with a non-cyclists  dog or cat poop, other bodily fluids, food or beverage products, gum or a pets leash and the non-cyclist does not immediately offer assistance to the cyclist.

*$13,610 or prison for 12 months or both, for dangerous obstruction of the common walking riding area by the non-cyclist.
