Subject: Just lost, what bike to choose on a budget
Hi, I have gone over this again and again and I keep going in circles on what bike to choose.

I´m a newbie, currently training for a 1/2 Ironman next year.  I bike on a used up mountain bike and need a new bike a.s.a.p.

What types do you recommend for me that might fill this criteria:

a) Budget around 1000 usd.
b) Training & competition bike.
c)  Preferably something that will be able to last for a while (don´t want to be upgrading in a year).

What should I be looking for in a bike in your opinion.

Please help me guys,

Regards,

First things first, it has to fit.  Second, for $1000 you should be able to get a very nice aluminum road bike that will last for a while.  However, if you could either increase your budget a few hundred or even better, catch a good sale, you could also get Shimano 105 components.  The Specialized Allez is very popular in this range, but almost every brand will have something.  In a similar thread recently, another poster suggested a Kona Zing which has a fantastic build for $1299.  If you choose to get a tri-specific bike, the Fuji Aloha is a great choice and they are always on sale for around $1000.  Feel free to PM or e-mail if you have more specific questions.
