This morning I had my first DNF. I've only ever done 3 sprints, but the one today was the first tri I ever did last year. I had trained really hard, and was looking forward to seeing how much I had improved in the last year.

I woke twice in the night with an upset stomach, but when I woke this morning I felt OK. I did the swim in about the time I expected, and felt slightly more tired than normal, but not too bad. I grabbed my bike and was just about to mount it when I started to feel very dizzy. I had to sit down right by the transition area to prevent myself fainting there and then.  I then proceeded to empty the contents of my stomach, and felt like I was going to die.

I had obviously picked up a stomach bug from somewhere, and I'm fine now. I'm really really disappointed though. You go through so much physical and mental preparation for a race, and then you suddenly have a DNF and four months to wait until my next event.

Bummer about the race but things like that happen.  I agree, there must be more races out there for you to do.

I wish there were more events for me to do but, living in Bermuda, there are only 4 triathlons a year. I would love to get over to the States to do a tri, but at the moment I have neither the vacation time nor the funds to be able to do that.

That truly sucks, but hey:
1. You got a swim training in
2. You live in Bermuda

Things could be worse. Hope you feel better.

I had my first DNF this year as well, at the Oliver half Ironman. It was after the first lap (of two) on the bike. My seat post bolt snapped in half. Seat fell off, end of race. Sucked because it was a big race for me. I wanted to do well and was on pace to have a Personal Best. Instead I got to watch my friends finish and get their medals. Got to feel sorry for myself for a day, and now back at it training harder for IM Canada.

Seriously I felt very bad for you until..... "I live in Bermuda" JK It sucks that you didn't finish but it waasn't for lack of effort so don't be to hard on yourself.
