Subject: I'm a sweaty mess. Is this a problem?
Out of curiosity decided to weigh myself before and after my workouts a couple weeks ago.  I lost 6 pounds after a 40 minute run and 5 pounds after an hour ride (I did drink maybe a half bottle of weak gatorade).  For the record I'm down here in sunny, humid Florida and both sessions were after 8 AM when it's in the mid 80s and the humidity is through the roof.  I was a little surprised that the weight loss from perspiration was that high, but not shocked.  I sweat like crazy and always have.  Heck, I'll keep sweating for an hour *after* I run.

So in the course of an easy ride on Sunday I'm telling my buddy about my little experiment.  This is the guy who got me in to tri and has been something of a mentor/guru to me in this first year of endurance sports.  He though that amount of fluid loss was excessive and probably "bad" in some way.  To me, as a 220 pound guy I'm thinking maybe I'm on the high side for sweaty sloppiness, but not outrageous or dangerous.  Make sense?  I do think that now that I'm running a little more and looking to extend my time on foot to beyond 60-70 minutes that a fuel belt might be a good idea so I have a little water on a longer run.  Other than that does this "sweat rate" seem like anything to give a lot of thought to?

Huh. Could you be any more obtuse with your response? Let me guess.. "Yes". Undecided

To the OP: I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you start having other symptoms. I'm a fairly heavy sweater as well, I had a 3 hour ride a few weeks ago in the early AM (In Phoenix), and despite taking in close to 96 oz of fluid, I still lost 4 lbs. I can lose 5 lbs in an hour long martial arts class (Wearing 5 lbs of canvas will do that to you), and I weigh 170ish at 5'11".

Just monitor the loss and replace it (I weigh myself before and after every workout), and be aware of other symptoms if they crop up.
