Subject: Whoa is me! My foot very well may be broken!
So, I am really really bummed out. I was carrying a bunch of crap out to my car today at work. I wear a Sanita (Dansko) professional clog shoe and my foot inverted (rolled). I felt a sharp pain in my foot. I didn't fall; and I kept on walking to my car. I drove myself home, though pushing in on the clutch (it's my L foot) really hurt. I took my shoe off and it felt better, but it was already starting to swell over the 5th metatarsal area (in the middle, lateral part of my foot). I put my running shoes on (because I was scheduled to get a run and a swim in today!) thinking that if that didn't hurt so much, I'd try to run! Fat chance! I could barely get my foot in the shoe! Off to urgent care I went. By now, the foot is really hurting! I get there and wait, and wait, and wait. They took an x-ray of the foot. The x-ray is suspicious of "something" towards the proximal (and medial side) end of the 5th metatarsal. The urgent care doc wasn't comfortable saying it is broken, but she wasn't comfortable saying it wasn't broken either. She gave me a post-op shoe to wear and told me to use my crutches (that I already have at home) and she'll call me tomorrow with the radiology report. My first Oly distance is on 9/12. This sucks! I'm used to working out 8-10 hours/week. What am I going to do?? Have any of you been through this and if so, what was your story. Misery loves company! I guess my plan will be to start loving aqua jogging. Maybe cycling- indoor spin bikes (once I can get my foot into my bike shoe), maybe now is a good time to work on my swim, although right now, any plantar flexion hurts the foot. I'll still try to do as much strength training as I can. UGGHHH!!!

Pool run. And hope you don't need surgery. 5th metatarsal fractures can be a beyotch.

Good luck!
