GT Transeo 4.0 for newbie ok?

Hi everyone. My husband and I are doing our first sprint at the end of August. We are purchasing bikes today and I wanted to get a little feedback first, if at all possible.
First, we're not sure if we will be consistently doing tri's after our first. ( until our first, we really don't know what to expect)
Second, we wanted bikes that we could also take on trails, but not actual major mountain biking. We went to Rei and saw the GT Transeo 4.0, but I can't find any reviews on the net.
Any recommendations?
