Subject: Ankle Sprain PT helpHey all, I believe I sprained my right ATFL turning and shifting my weight to the right while playing a sport. I have onset of ankle weakness and severe tenderness when I twist it, it becomes too painful to walk on immediately, I can usually walk on it after about an hour or 2 with some pain, and the pain usually totally resolves after 3 or 4 weeks (quicker if I don't use it ). These episodes have occurred more frequently the more I have been having them. my question: Does anyone know any good PT exercises I could do to strengthen the joint? All I can think of is just sitting down and doing dorsi/plantar flexions and holding them in the position for a little bit. Internal rotation with dorsiflexion will cause the ligament not necessarily to 'pop' but sort of rub over the top of something in a distinct kind of 'thump!' fashion. External does the same, and it is moderately painful when that happens. I need to strengthen this joint (I think ), help! Edited by ethilo 2009-07-15 3:25 AM
