Help
Any one know where I can do some OWS training before my race in Williamsburg on Sept 13.
I just purchased a shorty wetsuit and it should be delivered in about a week or so.
I did the 200 yard Try a tri up in Buffalo 2 weeks ago and went into full bore panic.
The race in Williamsburg is 700 yards so i need some open water practice.

Thanks in advance

There are a few lakes near Stokesville, about 25minutes northwest of Staunton.  Todd Lake (fee area) has a beach and a roped swimming area, but you can go under the rope and swim across.  Elkhorn lake is near Todd and is much larger but doesn't have the amenties that Todd has.

Sherando Lake is another National Forest lake about 30 minutes from Staunton, but the rangers frown upon swimming outside of the roped area.

There is a private quarry 5 minutes south of Staunton that offers great water for swims.  PM if you want to swim there and we can try to meet out there for an OWS.

I second Todd Lake.  I've been there a couple times to do an open water swim.  Its probably about 100-120 meters wide.  Just go under the rope out to the deeper part.

Tom,

If you volunteer to help set up this saturday for the C'Ville international, there's a free OWS clinic right after.

I did volunteer, unfortunately we have to go up north. My wifes mother has taken a turn for the worse, and I am not sure when I will be able to be back.

Very sorry to hear that. We'll be thinking of you.
