![]() Swim
Comments: I went faster than I anticipated. I was able to pass to people in the pool but wasn't pushing hard. I wasn't doing any counting just swimming and turning. I was at the end and couldn't believe it went so fast. What would you do differently?: Nothing it went so much better than anticipated. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Right out of the transition there was a bit of incline then a right turn around a barrel. I decided I was going to run my bike to the barrel and then mount. I believe this was very good decision. Many people had trouble mounting on the incline. What would you do differently?: Nothing I thought this went very well. ![]() Bike
Comments: I was a little worried about the first corner. I overcooked it just a bit and couldn't keep from just barely crossing the center line for a split second and was worried I would get DQ'd because we were warned to not even touch the center lines. Just after this corner I hit a pothole and damaged my front wheel so for the next 15 miles my brake was rubbing pretty good. The hills just killed me we don't have enough hills around here and definately wasn't prepared for all of these. What would you do differently?: I would ride more hills in preparations and hopefully by the next time I will have 20 lbs less to have to haul up those hills. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: This was not a great transition but acceptable. A car cut the guy ahead of me off and he nearly took me out in the process of avoiding a wreck. So it was pretty exciting coming in. The change went well and I ran to the end of my rack to give high fives to the kids. They were cheering hard for me and it was worth the extra couple seconds. What wasn't worth it was the fact that I missed picking up my number belt and had to go back. What would you do differently?: I would get my number belt the first time. ![]() Run
Comments: The run went pretty well, my left calf and groin were cramping a bit. I think this was because of the lack of hill work on the bike and I just had to give more on the bike than I wanted just to get through. What would you do differently?: I just need more mileage in training. ![]() Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: My biking, which I consider to be my strong event, but I am not a hill climber and there were just too many for me. Event comments: The best part of the event was that the Wiedmier team raised 805 dollars for MLERF. This event was important to us because of my youngest sons vision problems. We exceeded our goal for donations and really do appreciate everybody who donated to the cause. Last updated: 2005-04-27 12:00 AM

We got to Columbia Saturday afternoon checked in and went to our hotel. The kids and I then spent and hour or so playing in the pool. Didn't get bed too early about 11 pm. Woke up at 4:45 got ready had a banana and juice. Justine and the kids dropped me at the race and went back to the hotel to get ready.
I had a great spot on the rack in the transition area. Layed out my gear and double/triple checked everything.
Just tried to stay warm and loose. It was a pretty cool morning but not as bad as I expected.
