Subject: Gramin w/cloud cover question
I have a 305 and on today's long run it was very overcast and misting. I have it set to do lap pace and time. I'd notice my lap pace would all the sudden drop off quickly by up to a minute and then come back a bit but not to the pace I thought/felt I was running.

Do you guys have issues with right distance and pace when there is complete cloud cover or does Garmin adjust/correct when it does pick up the signal?

I run in heavy forest and wondered if distance is right as it auto pauses at time when I'm running.

What I'm trying to figure out is the distance off as well?

I have the same problems. Cloud cover and tree cover set it off.

Just to be clear, clouds and other weather phenomena do not affect GPS signals. Physical obstructions can (i.e. dense tree cover) and will if it's solid (in a building).  Most likely, you just experienced a lapse or blip in the reciever trying to sort out the position solution - basically, your reciever can't find enough satellites that are "in sight" to give the solution. That can happen for various reasons, and is usually very brief.  The satellites are all up there where they're supposed to be, but some recievers have occaisional problems finding them and then maintaining the track.

Cheers, Chris

So if it has a blip due to tree cover how does this effect time and pace?

I have my run screen set at lap pace and time. I can see the lap pace drop off by a minute when I know I haven't slowed down that much maybe a few seconds.

I hear the auto pause go on and off at times and have noticed it more as I'm running without music last few weeks.

Today I ran at the track while my kids had soccer conditioning. Obviously no tress covering and I was surprised how fast I was running for effort and it made me wonder if it has been off on many of my runs due to the trees cover.
