Subject: Bike Fit / Aero Bar Guru's - Help plz
So i ride a javelin sizzano (76 deg seat angle).  Its a 51cm frame, and i'm 165 lbs at 5'9 with no shoes.

I just recently lowered the position of the arm pads to have a more aero position, which is now requiring a total readjustment of everything on my bike.  I read this article for positioning issues, when i came to the conclusion that my aero bar extensions are all wrong for me.  In order to have the pads fit directly under my elbow, i would need the bars to be longer.  If i pull out the bars any more, they will fall out of the clamps.  These are hte bars that  came on my bike.  The tripple bend stuff i think is really stupid, and i wanted to go with somthing much more aerodynamic.

I had the idea of just getting new bars, such as these, but then i realized that i would need different clamps in order to hold the pads, because as of now, the pads screw directly into the aero bar extension (the holes can be seen here).

I was also wondering if the following bars would work on my oval cowhorns... http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&description=T2+Plus+Aero+Bar&vendorCode=PROFILE&major=1&minor=36&site=qbikehttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130318456302

I'm pretty tight on money, so i was looking for the most cost effective solution for me.  I definately need different aero bar extensions, but i'm not sure which direction to take.

I definately need room for fore and aft adjustement of the aero bar extensions so that i may have a proper fit on my bike.  I might need a new stem, but i'm not positive on that either.  The stem i have is an oval concepts stem that also came with the bike.

If the bars above won't give me exactly what i want, i was just thinking about going with these...http://www.bikesomewhere.com/bikesomewhere.cfm/product/568/5347/32414?qb=1

also, Whats the difference between all the aero bar extension types?  I'm guessing the straighter it is, the more aerodynamic it is, and the more bends it has, the more comfortable it is??

i'm sure by the time i get done typing this you will have some more answeres, but a few of your questions are pretty easy:

get the aerobars that fit you/you like the best. basebar aside straighter bars are no faster than upturned ones, and frankly many people cannot ride striaght or R-bends without wrist issues.
now that said, i find striaght bars to be the most comfortable bars i have been on. find a set you like.

if you want cheap and a lot of adjustability, check out the profile t2+, can find used for 30-40.
the other very common clip on is the vision TT clip on, normally used in the same price range.

they come in diff lengths (the vision) so you need to find the right ones.

on the aero front, lower is not always better, and without a wind tunnel, COMPLETELY closed covered/protected course, or a power meter, you wont really be able to tell on your own.
lower can actually make you faster in some cases, and slower in others.

i'm sure i will have more to throw in here later.

Thanks!  Are upgrading basebars generally worth their cost?

yes and no.

if you are looking for quick speed, no, you'll get a little bit, but we are taling sec, on the scale of money to speed, its very little.

however, diff bars will aid in getting the right extensions, which will allow you to be comfortable, and in the correct position. this is where they really start to play big. what is right for me, my bike, might not be the right choice for you and yours.

You need the bars longer in which way?  I just had a fitting done, and had to get a new stem because mine was too long.  If the pads need to be out further, maybe getting a longer stem would do the trick.

the bars i have are very weird.  I need the pads to be closer to my body, but in order to do that, i have to move the aero bars closer, and because of the way my bars are shaped, that would cause my whole body to be crunched up into an uncomfortable ball.

Since i lowered the position of the armrests, i have to angle my set down and move it forward.  I'm somewhat positive that i should also have a lowered stem.  And i'm sure i could prolly use a stem thats a few mm longer.

I'm not sure, i'm not a bike fit guru, i just know that i need one to help me fit my bike!!  Anybody here in the San Antonio area???

on the bar side, if you need the pads closer byt not the bars, check out the profile T2+ you can move the pads indepentently of the bars.
