Subject: Pain in the ball of my foot.
So I was doing my first HIM this past weekend and I started to get pain in the ball of my left foot and that had never happened before. I have an issue with my left foot where the pinky toe basically gets smooshed under the other toes and becomes a huge blister. I had a bandaid over it and the bandaid started digging into the toe next to it. All was extremely painful. I think this affected my stride and the weight distribution on my foot and that caused the foot pain. This is just a guess.

So since the race I went for a 4 mile run and I was fine. Then yesterday I tried to go further and at mile 5 the foot pain came back. It is awful! My little toe was also hurting a bit but nothing like the race. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? Do you think the pain is linked to my two small toes, and if so how can I stop that toe from getting blistered and being in pain and smooshed. This toe issue has been going on for months, but the foot pain is new. Do I need inserts? And FYI my running shoes have about 200 miles on them and I was fitted at the local running store.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd ice the foot 20 min, 20 min out of ice, 20 min back in ice. Twice a day for a week and see how it feels. Stretch and roll out your calfs. Roll the bottom of your foot with a golf ball or lacrosse ball. Then I'd go to the running store and explain the toe problem. Maybe a larger size or a shoe with a larger toe box?

X2 on the shoe with a larger toe box, at least that would address your smooshed pinky toe. Once you can take care of that problem you can zero in on the pain in the ball of your foot, if it continues.

I used to have horrible pain in the ball of my foot when running.  Turned out to be that the toe next to my big toe was seperating (for lack of a more appropriate medical term) from my foot just a little.  I have orthotics now in my running shoes, and have been told give up the high heels.  No pain at all anymore.  Still wear heels, but not as much    A girl can't give those up completely.

I can't imagine I need a larger toe box! I usually wear a 7 1/2 shoe and my running shoes are a 8 1/2 for room.

Good to know that orthotics helped. I may have to go that route.

And I don't want to have to give up my heels either

Not a larger shoe size (and in my experience running shoes run small, I usually wear a 7 1/2 regular shoe and wear an 8 1/2 running shoe) but a shoe designed to be more square/round in the toe area as opposed to more tapered.

Ok that makes sense.
