I went to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch, a place I never go.  Their menu has the calorie content of all of their offered items, which I think is a very good idea.  The problem was that I was absolutely horrified at how high the calorie content of EVERYTHING was.  I had a grilled vegetable salad with chicken and this was over 700 calories.  I am still in shock.  I cannot even imagine how it got up to over 700 calories, but they certainly wouldn't inflate the count.  This may be the last restaurant meal of my life.

I also went to the website to get the rest of the nutritional information, thinking that might shed some insight into how or why the calories were so high, but even there, all you get is calorie count.

Does any other restaurant offer calorie counts or other nutritional information?  Do you think that by offering this information that it greatly affects food choices?  (It certainly did for me!!!)

It's probably whatever fatty dressing or fat used to cook the chicken in... A lot of chain restaurants have their nutritional info online, just google your favorite meals. Warning, it's scarier than you think! It's always best to ask for steamed veggies, no dressing, leans cuts of meat - stick to the simple things without sauces or sauces on the side so you can still get a taste but not smother your foods in them. I try to stay away from fast foods/chain restaurants typically...

I find most major chain restaurants offer online calorie/nutrition counts - but sometimes you have to search for it. It's not something they actively want to advertise.

It is an eye opener, isn't it. Yet so many people think they did good by having that chicken salad. Eek.
