Subject: Two weeks out from first sprint tri. Tips?
Hey, I'm pretty new. Laughing

So my first super sprint tri is in two weeks.  I did a couple of tri's as a kid so I vaguely know what to expect.  I did a rough run through this weekend with transitions included and felt really good afterward.  HUNGRY but good.

I'm planning to train more this week and then taper next week...I know it's probably unnecessary to taper for a super sprint tri but I'm recovering from tendinitis in both knees so I'm being conservative.

I've been mostly concerned about the bike (only been at it a few months) and the run.  Right now my swim time is #1 in my AG but I expect to get passed on the bike and totally slaughtered in the run.

Any tips from you non-n00bs on how to spend these last two weeks?  Thanks!!

Hey, there must've been a post about being afraid to swim in Open Water or something that bumped you down...

I'm in the same boat with a sprint in 2 weeks (Aug 8th-Loggerhead).  I got sick this week, but I was planning on just cutting-back to one workout per day and go pretty solid intensity all week.  Next week, my plan is like this backwards from race day since your race is on Sunday whereas mine is on Saturday.

Race Day (RD)
(RD -1) Ride 5 miles, Run 1 mile brick
(RD -2) half a Track workout ~3 miles of speed work
(RD -3) half-hour swim, half-hour bike with transition.
(RD -4) ~3 mile run and OWS at lunch
(RD -5) 1 Hour bike

The day-before brick is really to make sure I have all my stuff co-located.  The OWS during the week is important because you don't go into race-day having not swam OWS since your last race.

Good luck!  Have fun!

As for not tapering for a sprint I don't believe that should be a universal rule.  If you taper and how much should depend upon your level of fitness not because "it's a sprint".

I would recommend bricks to get yourself used the transitions.  I tend to run into cramping issues on the bike to run so I do those to at least get used to the pain.

My advice would be to relax, enjoy the event and don't stress over performance.  You'll perform better if you're having a good time.  Ever see Chrissie Wellington not smiling during a race?
