Subject: Faster in a trisuit

First time in my one-piece trisuit in the swimming pool this morning.  A few comments:

(1)   My 400 yard time was almost a minute faster.  I’m getting better with every swim, but that was a ridiculous jump.  Does a suit make that much of a difference versus trishorts and no shirt?

(2)   How long does it take to get used to the suit?  Way too form fitting for my sensibilities.  I saw myself in the mirror and felt an insatiable need to go home and do a million crunches.

Just having fun as usual.  Thanks for listening.

I am sure you benefited slightly from slightly less drag, but I can't see that the difference in your swim time would be that much better if you were wearing tri-shorts before. Maybe if you had baggy swim trunks or something, then went to trisuit, I would say you would get nice gains. As far as gettting use to wearing a one-piece, well, practice a few times in the pool, but not all the time. As far as being comfortable in how you look in it, well, I haven't gotten there yet. All I can say is keep working out. People will say, who cares what people think, you are the one training. I still laugh when I walk by a mirror and I am wearing a bike shirt zipped down, bike shorts, socks and shoes. Who is this funny looking guy...
