Subject: Hybrid vs Road bike for an olympic triathlon
Hi,
I am training for my first triathlon, 1 mile swim, 30 mile bike, 6.2 run.  I currently have a hybrid that I have been training with.  Everyone I talk to says I should invest in a road bike.  However, funds are not there.  So, I have been looking on craig's list and have found a Trek 1100 aluminum road bike for $200.  That I can swing.  (See description below)  Also, I am 5'2" and not sure if this bike would be a fit for my size.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I would ride the hybrid until I found a bike that was a good fit and a good value.  IMO that Trek is neither.

I have three bikes: a carbon tri-bike, a road bike, and a mountain bike.  I have ridden all three in tris and had just as much fun (if not as much speed) on the mnt bike as the tri bike.  Unless you are in danger of missing the cutoff time or of reaching the podium, who cares what bike?

For the distances you are talking about, if I were riding the mountain bike I would swap the knobbies for slicks.
