Subject: RE: Calories Burnt BikingGarmin grossly overestimates biking calories burned. It seems closer on the run, but I use 100-125 cals / mile for that... Your mileage varies, but from what i've read the most accurate way of determining calories burned on bike is to use a power meter, but those are $$$. I generally use one of the following: 25-30 calories / mile for low effort rides & commuting 500 cals per hour for moderate effort rides 600 cals per hour for intense effort rides Try starting at 500 cals per hour and see where that takes you with your weight loss. You can also search through the forums for 'calories burned biking' and find some other formulas that people use. Oh yah, and a lot of people do base + 1/2 calories burned, so for you 1500 + 1/2 cals burned. On heavy weeks sometimes this doesn't cut it for me hunger-wise, so i'll up it to 3/4 of cals burned.
