I have just be told I have ankle tendonitis in my right foot, after three weeks back into training after coming back from a knee injury. I would appreciate any advice from people who have suffered from ankle tendonitis in the past, on how they dealt with it, and how long it took until they were training again. I would also like advice on how to stay positive, motivated and determined when injured. I find myself feeling hopeless, and negative. Thanks

Ugh, that STINKS! My ankle tendonitis was from too much punting practice as a soccer keeper in college (thanks, Coach...), so I can't help much there. But, I've been where you are.

First, remember it WILL get better. You will NOT always be injured.

Second, do every part of your PT. Ice as often as your PT tells you, heat when you should, do all the exercises, etc. Yes, it sucks, but really, they tell us to do this stuff for a reason.

Third, if your PT tells you to lay off certain activities, lay off. Taking x weeks out of your schedule now may avoid taking YEARS off later.

Fourth, find (and ask for) stuff you CAN do. Heh, triathletes often don't do a strong kick in swimming - so work the living daylights out of your pull, perfect your stroke, get that body roll exactly right. Swim as much as you reasonably can/should, and really get that pulled together. Make it your goal to see y gains by the end of the month (drop your 100 time, do a continuous 1500, whatever), again within reasonable limits. By having a goal in an activity you CAN do, you will shift the focus off the stuff you CAN'T do.

Good luck - you can DO it!

I injured mine about 3 weeks ago now and finally just went to the DR tuesday and was diagnosed with the same as you. Of course it was feeling better then and has since but glad I finally went and had the Dr tell me to keep the heck off it since I wasn't.

Swimming is the only thing that doesn't require work, of course it can use some work, so I am really annoyed that it is all I can do for another 4-5 days but oh well.

As each Dr or PT is going to recommend different things just do what they tell you specifically and take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt.

Mine gave me heal lifts to wear for the next week to help take pressure off it in normal day to day walking. Told me to do ice massages once a day for now and also after I start running and riding again. I have to do a couple sets of the heel dip things on stairs each day now and after. Then also once I am riding and running again just make sure its warmed up before I start and stretched properly.

Sorry to hear it! That really sucks!

To stay positive and motivated... focus on swimming and cycling. Can you cycle?

Sign up for some open water swim events and bike rallies. Find something new to focus on. It will help the time pass!
