Subject: RE: Weight loss after race....jmholmes - 2009-08-12 2:03 PM Hello everyone, a quick question. Last weekend I did the Bridgeland tri on sunday and sat night and into sunday morning I was feeling the effects of a stomach virus if you know what I mean. ( both ends). I didn't really feel all that great but I have trained for this damn thing for 6 weeks and with all the money and travel and not wanting to let my wife down ( she participated too) I was bound and determined to do it. I did it, and completed it in a descent time. So, here is the problem. I lost close to 8 lbs of weight from the virus and probably any extra fluids from the race even with the hydration that was available there. What is the quickest way to get those 8 back? It has affected my training already, I can feel it. You may think that 8 lbs is not a big loss, but I only way 150 lbs soaking wet. Is my body just still in shock or is this normal and should I just keep pushing on? Thanks guys. Just take it easy for a few days and hit up some water and gatorade/powerade/whateverade. Diarrhea and vomiting will dehydrate as well as cause electrolyte imbalance. If it were me, I'd do almost nothing for 2-4 days and hit up the OJ, grapefruit juice, water, etc. as well as some extra carbs to help replenish glycogen and retain water. John |
