Subject: Any October Events?
I was planning to get in one more race, however September is a busy month.  Does anyone know of any October triathlon events in the NE area?  I checked the Race calendar on BT and the usual sites but came up empty; however I've seen events mentioned here that didn't make these lists.

I couldnt find one last year when I looked either.  The water in October can get pretty cold.  That's why there are Du's

The only "triathlon" I know of is a X/C triathlon at lake tully in Royalston MA. canoe or kayak 5 miles, then X/C run for 4.5 miles and then Mt bike 7.5.  It's October 17th.  I did it last year and It's a lot of fun.  It's listed as an adventure race.

FWIW - the closest triathlons seems to be in NY & NJ the first weekend in October, and none after that

There are also a couple of duathlons at the end of October - Firm's Wrentham Du and one in the Lowell/Lynn area.

Scituate has a duathon - associated with the Cohasset, Marlborough, Gloucester series.  These guys put on a top notch race.

I and several others are heading down to Austin for the Longhorn HIM.  Same series as Timberman.  This will be my first HIM.

May want to consider modest travel in the OCtober/November timeframe.

Thanks for the tips everyone.  I will sign up for the Scituate Duathlon for sure.  I was able to squeeze in a sprint tri for September, the YMCA Clough State in Weare, NH.  I'll be coming off a week long vacation with family and friends; I guess its good motivation to make sure I get some training in.

Good luck with HIM...I'm not quiet there yet.

I did Weare NH last year when I found out Hyannis was sold out.  I really enjoyed it and I would do it again if it was on a different weekend than Hyannis.  well run, good people.  FYI, The rec area is closed, so all you have is portajohns.

It's an open transition area, ie racking is not assigned.  Get there early and hang at your spot so late comers dont squeeze into your area.
You'll have a 300 yard run from swim to transition.  Many ppl left sandals or flip flops near the beach.
The bike is all up hill to start.  The hill that you come down when you enter the park (not by the dam), thats your first hill.  Then about 1/2 way, It/s mostly downhill, then a climb near the end.
The run is out and back on a dirt fire road.  The aid station is at the 1 mile mark, so you also get it coming back at mile 2 as well.

Good luck

If you wanna make a weekend out of it you can do the Mightyman Sprint in Montauk, Long Island, NY on October 3rd.  They also have the HIM on the 4th.  Is there still a ferry out to Montauk from Mass that time of year??

ratherbesnowboarding - 2009-08-20 4:41 PM I did Weare NH last year when I found out Hyannis was sold out.....

Thanks for the tips, I guess I should do some more hill work leading up to this one.  Also good to hear they put on a decent event.  Was it electronically timed?  I did a YMCA sponsored tri in Wakefield, Ma. earlier this season and it wasn't; so no splits unless you had your watch going.

It was electronically timed last year (so I would assume again this year).  The 300 yard run is part of your swim time.  There are mats coming into transition and going out so you do get T1 & 2 splits too.

My business is a main sponsor for this race. It is going to be eventful. They are planning on making it a family event. Obviously the race will take place but they are going to have games, music, vendors and food for the spectators.
Best part about it is part of the proceeds go to The Friendship Club/Home and the members of the homes will try to participate.
Should be fun. On a bad note I have a conflict so I can not make the race but so of my employees and my business partner will be there.
