Subject: a CHEST COLD 8 days before Ironman...slap me!

Crushingly, it appears I have a chest cold eight days ahead of Ironman Canada (Aug 30).

I know how this particular chest cold is going to play out, getting worse just on Ironman day.

One doesn't give up a years worth of living Ironman easily.

I ask myself: what is the point in participating?  I would not be able to achieve last years' 11:37:25 and I would only injure my body.

I have this fantasy in the back of my mind saying, this cold will force me to go out slow, meter my energy and in the end come back with a good finishing time.  But I need someone of experience to slap me in the face and say 'That is just a fantasy, save your body to race another day!'.

I hope to get sick as a dog and have this decision unequivocal and 'made for me'.

Hope you feel better. You still have time to heal up before the race.

Good luck!!
