Subject: RE: Anybody been on the green bay bike trail? You absolutely DO NOT want to take the McClory trail north of Great Lakes Navel Base. As was stated, you have to go through the bombed out factory area, yes, glass every where, but even when you get back on the trail conditions do not improve. It's crushed limestone, streets to cross very frequently with a lot of glass, and you are riding in the backyards of questionable neighborhoods for some time. My husband and I rode it a few years back, all the way to the WI border and would never ride it again. If you want a very scenic ride to WI and don't mind crushed limestone trails, the DesPlaines river trail is very nice. You can get to it via the McClory trail. Just get off the trail at Rt 176 where the trail connects with a trail that runs along 176 to Libertyville. (I'm blanking on the name right now ) The DesPlaines trail interests this trail. Only problem is that the trail runs under the major roads and will be closed when the river is high (like now after all the rain we've had ). |
