Subject: Question about Road ID for Emergency Responders
I know there are some Paramedics and Emergency Responders on the list, and I have a question for you: In your opinion, are most paramedics aware of the Road IDs and know what they are? I ask because I got the "Interactive" style and it says on the front "For ID Information" to call the number on the bracelet. That doesn't necessarily make it clear that by calling the 800-number, they can access detailed medial information, also.

The first responder class I took specifically tells to check for any type of medical warning bracelets.  Anklet or shoe pouch, they may not notice.  If I didn't know what a road ID was, I'd still notice it while checking, and would certainly read what was written - self explanatory there.  I'd also think, if the person weren't conscious and you had someone available, you'd check pockets/tool bag for some type of phone or contact info.

I will defer to the real EMTs out there (there are a bunch on this forum), but I am pretty sure that its standard procedure to check the wrist for any ID/med alert type bracelets, so you should be in good hands!

I looked at the old posts linked above, and I agree with what the ER people said.  I think that direct contact information is more helpfull than a web site or phone number to a data base.

My RoadID (friends call it a Death Braclet - Dad calls it Road Kill ID)
Wife cell phone
Home phone
Dad's  cell phone  (don't whant mom getting news first)
blood type  organ donar
 
*I liked what one of the nurses said, that they wouldn't go off of the blood type on the ID, they would test for themselves.  I'll use that space for something else next time.

I purchased the interactive RoadID thinking it would be nice in event a phone # becomes outdated.  I didn't think it through clearly though, because as rare as my contact #'s change, I would of been better off using just buying a new RoadID instead of paying $10 a year for interactive subscription.  I think the non-interactive would be easier for emergency responders as stated in original thread.

Yep, as stated, don't do Interactive. Water under the bridge now, but if you need to upgrade, get a new one, whatever, go with the info directly on the bracelet.

You are FAR better off with the interactive than with none, though!
