Subject: Morning swim frustrationsThis mornings swim was frustrating. I started out with a nice easy stretch of 200 meters. Then I started my 100 meter intervals. I just could not get a smooth rhythm down. The entire length I was thinking you not doing this or that. I felt like I was fighting every stroke. Then is switched to 200 meter pulls/free. I settled down a little and figured it’s time to work on this bilaterally breathing. So I switched breathing on my opposite side on the return lap. I felt out of balance, grasping for air, like I was turning my head and not rotating. However I noticed my right arm (my usual breathing side) felt more in control. See I usually feel like my right arm is flopping or just lagging behind as I breathe on my left side. I mentioned this to a swim coach one morning when he was watching me and he said it was fine. I just don’t feel this way. I kept this up for a while and then I switched to kick sets, shark fin and back kicks. As I do my return lap with my right arm in the water, leading and my left hand up on my side. I feel like I am falling over backwards in the water and my legs are sinking. On the other way I could see my shadow on the wall and I looked semi straight and I could see I was kicking from the hips. I got done, checked my counter and my watch and swam the farthest and the fastest yet. But man was it ugly or at least it felt ugly. It’s like my work on smooth glide and breath steady went back to square one. But the watch and counter says your getting better. I am still having problems getting under the 2:00 per 100m. So in the morning after work, I am going back and just working on kick sets, breathing on my right side and flip turns.
