Subject: Bike Trainer ?
With winter/cold weather rapidly approaching up here in Nebraska, I am looking at getting a trainer for the winter months.
I have no clue as to what to look for. I have done two sprints, only been training for tris for 3 months, so don't need anything fancy, just something to get started.
I have a Schwinn $300 road bike, if that matters.
TIA

Based on the research I did, I got a Kurt Kinetic road machine. I got it two weeks ago and promptly got the flu, so I used it the first time yesterday. It was easy to set up, it was fine...Wind trainers are supposed to be loud, fluid trainers quiet. I've never heard a wind trainer, but I wouldn't call the fluid trainer I got quiet... I could still hear the TV, but did have to turn it up a fair bit.

I'm in Australia and got a cheap Tranzx (magnetic) because I didn't know how much I'd use it so didn't want to shell out too many $s.  It is good, quiet, pretty smooth and at the moment semi-permanently attached to my bike (a winter of much rain and big winds and spring not much nicer!)  I'm really pleased with it.

Thank you to all, I will look into those. I don't want to spend much, as I too, don't know how much I will use it.

I have had zero problems with my nashbar mag in all of the years I have used it. Quiet, inexpensive, durable.

I use it a lot more than I thought I would - it's really easy to while away an hour on a cold winter's evening on the thing and it's a great way of getting toasty warm Smile   If life throws me a curve ball (often happens with hubby's work and my five-year old, well just being five) and I miss some other training, it's a great way to compensate.  It takes up very little room and sets up really quickly.  Looking forward to having it under the air-conditioner come those stinking hot summer days when it 42C and hot winds off the desert.
