Hey everyone. I am in search of a good, used indoor trainer to throw my tri bike on for the winter - training for Ironman #2 (how stupid). Anyhow, I don't want to spend a ton, as I am a poor college student. I just wanted to see what people thought was a really nice trainer, that I could get for a decent price. Thanks!

For what it's worth, I have a long ago version of this one: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_501258_-1_201453_10000_201454

It's about 6-7 years old, and has had zero problems. It's quiet, cheap, durable, and reliable.

I also have a fluid trainer: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_172965_-1_10000__11501  but I typically prefer to use my mag. but it also has been reliable and durable and quiet.

Those do look nice. What is the difference between the mag and the fluid? Sorry, clueless when it comes to these things. My last trainer was given to me, but when I moved a month ago, I was unable to pack it with me...grr.

Fluid is a bit more realistic resistance as the speed increases from what I have seen.  I picked up a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine on craigslist that was almost brand new for a great price and I absolutely love it.

I would definately try to get a fluid, even if they tend to be a bit more expensive. This allows you the training to be much more realistic, as speed increases so will resistance, same as on the road. Plus, they are usually less noisy.
