Subject: Ocean swim for first HIM
All,

I am targetting the Big Kahuna  in Santa Cruz, CA for my first HIM. I have done a couple of Sprint/Oly distances earlier this year. I am wondering if there is anything specific that I need to practice from a swim perspective for dealing with an ocean swim.

The race has been pushed back to end of October from early September. Anyone know what the water is like at that time of year - choppy, cold? Any advice on the wind for biking?

TIA

The water will be cold, it is what this race is known for. Wear two caps or a neoprene cap, I would get to the swim early and practice a few starts and exits as part of your warm up, good luck!
